Requirements depend on your location, premises and the service you provide. Ask the council about the applicable health and hygiene rules, any licence or registration, inspections and premises standards. A rule for another city or a different beauty service may not answer your question.<\/p><p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/akhaveyoursay.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz\/health-and-hygiene-bylaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Auckland Council&#8217;s health and hygiene information<\/a> describes licensing and inspection of services that intentionally pierce the skin. The page also discusses proposed changes: a consultation proposal is different from an adopted rule. Ask the council which version and commencement date apply to your business.<\/p><h2 style=\"margin:36px 0 16px\" id=\"what-to-send\">Give the council a clear description<\/h2><p>A specific enquiry is easier to answer than asking whether a beauty business needs a licence. Provide your proposed address and explain exactly what you intend to offer. For a home studio, say that clients would attend the property.<\/p><ul><li>Name the service: scalp micropigmentation using needles and cosmetic pigment.<\/li><li>Describe whether you will work alone, employ others or rent space in an existing studio.<\/li><li>Ask about the operator, premises and any practitioner requirements separately.<\/li><li>Request the application process, documents, fees, inspections and renewal conditions.<\/li><li>Ask whether planning or home-business permissions also need checking.<\/li><\/ul><h2 style=\"margin:36px 0 16px\" id=\"training-evidence\">Separate training from permission<\/h2><p>A course certificate records the training and completion requirements of its provider. It does not automatically approve your premises or authorise every procedure. An external membership or registration is another record, with its own scope.<\/p><p>Ask the council and your intended insurer what evidence they require. Send the exact course name, syllabus and assessment information, rather than only a statement that it is accredited. These might concern your proposed layout and facilities, cleaning arrangements, waste management, client records or training evidence. Let the council confirm the applicable requirements and acceptable documentation.<\/p><p>If an existing studio says its licence covers you, verify that the premises and service arrangements fit your proposed work. Keep the council&#8217;s written response and any inspection or approval conditions in a business folder.<\/p><h2 style=\"margin:36px 0 16px\" id=\"keep-current\">Keep the answer current<\/h2><p>Record the date, officer or department, applicable bylaw or guidance and any next step. Check again if you move premises, change services or take on a different working arrangement.
