Aftercare information should be clear enough for the person receiving it to understand and use. For a student, the first task is to learn the procedure-specific guidance used in training and know where to refer a question that needs more expertise.
Do not combine unrelated instructions
Tattoo and piercing aftercare are not a single interchangeable routine. Different procedures and products can have different instructions. Use the written guidance supplied for the actual procedure, and ask the practitioner to clarify anything that conflicts with another source.
A social-media comment or a friend’s experience does not establish what is appropriate for a particular situation. Avoid adding unapproved products or promising a faster result because something worked for someone else.
Review the information before the appointment ends

The NHS advises prompt medical help for a suspected piercing infection. Pain, heat, swelling, discharge or feeling unwell can warrant assessment. Use the appropriate medical service where you live; a course tutor or photograph cannot diagnose the cause.
Keep the response within your role
If a client reports a concern, record what they describe accurately and follow the studio’s referral process. Do not recommend medication, make a diagnosis or give a guarantee based on a message. Ask your instructor how the team distinguishes a routine aftercare question from a concern requiring medical attention.
