Permanent makeup training can cover several services, so the first decision is what you want to learn. A brow-focused programme and a broader PMU course do not necessarily teach the same skills. For a Canadian learner comparing online options, a useful shortlist connects the published techniques with design practice, tutor support and the equipment you will need.
Choose the services you want to study
Make a three-column shortlist: brows, eyeliner and lips. Under each, write what you want to understand or practise and what experience you already have. You may want a broad foundation, or you may be adding one skill to an existing beauty business. The course should match that starting point.
A course title alone does not establish the exact techniques included. Check whether the brow lessons involve machine techniques, manual microblading, or a combination. If the wording is unclear, ask the provider to identify the relevant modules before choosing.
Read the PMU curriculum as a learning sequence
The Canadian Skinart PMU course lists consultation and customer records, eyebrow design and face shapes, workstation preparation, skin topics, nano brows, ombre brows, eyeliner and lips. It also includes colour theory, undertones, PMU correction and waste handling.
- Design: look for work that helps you explain a proposed shape, not just copy a finished result.
- Techniques: compare the named services with your shortlist.
- Colour: check how pigment selection and undertones connect with practice assignments.
- Client communication: identify the lessons on consultation, records and aftercare.
Use the published curriculum to separate a core inclusion from an extra you are assuming. A short description of a correction topic, for example, does not mean every kind of correction or removal training is included.
Use a design exercise to make your enquiry specific
On a fictional face template, sketch two different eyebrow designs and write one sentence explaining the choice behind each. Label the page as a drawing exercise, not client work. Add the question you would want a tutor to answer, such as how to evaluate balance or communicate a proposed shape.
This gives you a practical way to ask about feedback before enrolling. You can explain the kind of review you need without sharing private client information or claiming experience you do not yet have. Once enrolled, follow the course assignments and your tutorās directions for practical work.
Compare PMU with separate microblading training
PMU and microblading share some planning topics, but the tools and practical learning are not interchangeable. Skinartās separate microblading course includes manual hair-stroke work and its own assignments. Compare those lessons with the machine brow modules listed on the PMU page.
If both disciplines are part of your plan, use the Canadian bundle builder to compare the included full courses and the displayed saving. Start with the skills you intend to learn; a bigger package is useful when it addresses a real learning goal.
Plan equipment and a workable study routine
Skinart does not supply course equipment in Canada. Review the equipment list and recommended suppliers, and ask when each item is needed before buying it. Set aside time for reviewing a lesson, completing the associated work and acting on feedback rather than counting video hours as the whole course.
The Full Course option and Pay As You Go Part 1 are different purchase routes. Part 1 is not the full course and does not itself qualify for the full-course certificate. You may buy later parts when ready, without a commitment to purchase them all. Read the current selected option and course terms before checkout.
Make a clear decision before enrolling
Record the services covered, the work reviewed, the equipment you must obtain and the complete purchase route. Keep unanswered questions visible in your notes. Ask the Skinart team about those questions rather than assuming an inclusion from a promotional photograph.
Also confirm the requirements for your intended services and premises with the relevant provincial or local authority. Completing training and obtaining permission to offer a service are separate responsibilities. When your shortlist is clear, review the PMU course curriculum and current options and choose the route that fits your study plan.
For a more focused brow route, read the Canadian microblading learning guide. For a different pigmentation discipline, compare SMP training.
