Learn PMU From Home: Organise Your Study and Practice
Online PMU study works best when each session has a clear purpose. Give yourself time to watch, explain what you have learned, complete the assigned work and ask questions. This guide helps you organise that process; it does not provide instructions for performing permanent makeup on yourself or another person.
Start With the Course Requirements
Read the current course outline and ask which equipment, exercises and assessment submissions are required. Explain your previous experience and the techniques you want to learn. If you need supervised practical teaching, establish whether it is included and how it would be arranged before enrolling.

Plan a Session Around One Learning Question
Choose a lesson or assigned task rather than trying to cover an entire technique in one sitting. Watch the relevant teaching, write down the point you are working on and note anything you cannot yet explain. Return to those gaps before moving into work that depends on them.
- Lesson or topic studied.
- Task assigned by the course or tutor.
- What you attempted and which materials you used.
- One focused question about the attempt.
- Feedback received and the next revision.
This short record helps a tutor understand what you are asking. Keep it factual: “I cannot reproduce the same outline on the second drawing” is more useful than “I am bad at brows”.
Use Design Exercises to Practise Observation
For a non-procedural study exercise, draw a simple brow outline on paper, repeat it beside the first and compare the two. Mark where the outline, spacing or proportion differs. Keep both versions and write a question about the difference you find hardest to identify.
This is a drawing exercise, not a treatment design for a person or a substitute for an assigned task. Use the course’s instructions for equipment-based exercises and ask before changing the materials or method.
Do not move from drawings or practice material to skin-penetrating work on yourself, friends or clients simply because a video is complete. Clarify practical requirements, supervision and the conditions for that work with the appropriate people first.
Make Feedback Easy to Act On
When submitting work, identify the lesson, the attempt and the question. Follow the agreed submission format. If you send photographs, keep lighting and framing consistent and label practice material clearly so the reviewer has the right context.
Save the original attempt alongside the feedback and revision. A useful improvement record explains what you changed and why, rather than showing only the final image. If feedback is unclear, ask for clarification before repeating the same uncertainty.
Use the portfolio guide when choosing examples to share publicly. Private learning notes, client information and tutor comments should not become advertising material automatically.
Allow Time and Budget for the Whole Route
The UK course does not supply equipment; confirm the current equipment list and purchasing guidance before ordering. Allow time for practice, questions and revisions as well as the recorded videos. The published video duration is not a promise of how quickly you will become competent.
Check your selected course option and access terms. Pay As You Go Part 1 is not the full course and does not itself qualify you for the full-course certificate. Published terms also distinguish self-paced study from access after completion: course access locks after completion and certificate issue, while lifetime support continues separately.
