Tattoo Training

Build your tattooing skills with structured learning, practice assignments and tutor support. Explore online training or compare in-person options in South Africa and New Zealand, then choose the course format that fits your location and goals.

What you can learn

Skinart’s tattoo course includes fine-line tattooing alongside linework, colour packing, shading, watercolour and realism. Training also covers equipment, design, needle depth, hygiene and bloodborne pathogens, with assignments to help you develop your practical skills.

Start with drawing and practice skin. Controlled lines, consistent depth and careful review of your work provide a foundation for fine-line designs and the other styles taught in the course. Read the tattoo training curriculum for the course content and view the training gallery to see the learning environment and examples of practice.

Choose how you want to study

Online training: study the video lessons at your own pace and work through the assignments. The online tattoo training guide explains the course format and learning resources.

In-person training: explore the available practical course options on the South Africa catalogue or New Zealand catalogue. Compare the course duration, location and equipment inclusions on the individual course page before booking.

Before you enrol

Check the practitioner and studio requirements with the relevant local authority where you intend to work. A training certificate does not replace local registration, licensing or premises requirements. Course completion depends on completing the learning and assessment requirements.

If you are combining tattooing with another skill, compare the regional course and package options. For help choosing a format, contact the Skinart training team.
