Online scalp micropigmentation course: what is included?

The most useful way to understand an online SMP course is to separate the lessons, practical work, purchase option and equipment. Here is a guide to the curriculum and conditions currently described on Skinart’s New Zealand course page.

The lesson topics

The online scalp micropigmentation course is dedicated to scalp micropigmentation. The published curriculum groups learning into the following areas:

• Getting started: introduction, important information and course files.
• Legal and health topics: local requirements, public health concerns and bloodborne pathogens.
• Equipment and technique: equipment, needles, pigmentation processes, pigments and their application.
• Further technique: hairline creation, blending, shading and assignments.
• Completion: final review and the course completion certificate.

These are the published topic headings, rather than a promise that watching a video alone establishes practical competence. Ask how each relevant task is demonstrated, practised and assessed.

Videos and practical assignments

Lessons are pre-recorded, so you can return to a demonstration while studying. The course page describes more than three hours of video training alongside assignments. Video running time is different from the time you spend studying, practising, asking questions and revising work.

Before you begin, confirm the submission process and how to request feedback. Keep notes on the lesson, your practice objective and the specific question you want answered. Use the training surfaces and exercises directed by the instructor.

Full course and Pay As You Go

Select the purchase option on the sales page before adding it to your basket. Full-course access and Pay As You Go are different purchases. Part 1 does not include all later parts and does not by itself qualify you for the full-course certificate.

The published staged option lets you purchase the next part when ready, without an obligation to buy subsequent parts. Check the current part contents and prices so that you understand both what is included now and what would be purchased later.

Equipment and access conditions

The kit is optional; it is not automatically included with every course. Ask for the current contents and confirm whether your existing equipment is suitable for the exercises. Our SMP equipment guide explains useful questions to ask before ordering.

The course page allows time to complete the programme and describes lifetime support. It also states that course access locks once the course is complete and the certificate has been issued. Keep this distinction in mind: support and continuing access to lessons are different things.

What completion means

Ask which assignments and other requirements must be satisfied for certificate issue. The course describes BAQA-approved training and automatic BAQA registration; those are separate from the course certificate and from local permission to practise.
