BBP training mistakes: a studio review checklist

A useful BBP review looks for gaps between what someone studied and the tasks they are expected to perform. This checklist focuses on training and communication. It does not provide a clinical protocol or establish that a studio is safe through a self-assessment alone.

Treating the certificate as the whole process

Completing the online BBP course documents learning and assessment under its conditions. It does not demonstrate every practical task in your workplace. Ask who checks induction and where that evidence is recorded.

Keep technique training, BBP learning, local permission and insurance records distinct. An accreditation badge should not replace a clear answer about the services you are trained and permitted to provide.

Working with unclear or outdated instructions

Identify the instructions actually used for equipment, products and tasks. Ask who keeps them current and how changes are communicated. A saved screenshot or an old colleague’s explanation may not reflect the current procedure.

  • Can staff find the procedure when they need it?
  • Is responsibility for the task clear?
  • Are questions resolved before someone performs it?
  • Is practical induction reviewed when equipment changes?

Raise inconsistencies with the manager rather than choosing whichever instruction is easiest.

Passing the quiz without resolving questions

A topic can still be unclear after a successful assessment. Keep the question, lesson reference and tutor’s response together. Discuss how the answer relates to your role with the person responsible for workplace guidance.

If you cannot explain an instruction or the reporting route, request further learning or supervision. Do not use completion speed or a high score as a substitute for understanding the work expected of you.

Leaving incidents and refreshers unplanned

Confirm who handles exposure procedures, records and review of concerns. Keep a dated note of agreed actions. Do not assume everyone knows an emergency contact because it was mentioned once during onboarding.

Use the renewal and refresher guide to check deadlines with the relevant organisation and plan updates when work changes. Address the specific gap you found rather than repeatedly purchasing a course without checking whether it meets the need.
