Teach tattooing · South African artists
Turn your tattooing experience into a practical teaching opportunity in your own part of South Africa. Apply to work with Skinart as a local in-person tattoo trainer, helping learners connect their online course with a focused four-day workshop.

Online learning. Four practical days. Your experience.
You bring
Tattooing experience, a relevant portfolio and the ability to explain your work in a suitable studio.
Skinart supplies
The online tattoo course plus workshop activities and guidance for the practical teaching.
The learner follows
The online learning pathway, with an extra charge for a four-day in-person workshop.
The student still completes the Skinart online tattoo course and its completion requirements to receive the Skinart course certificate. The workshop adds practical time with a local artist; it does not replace the online course or mean a learner is ready for independent work after four days.
Skinart supplies the workshop activities and guidance on what to cover and how to deliver it. You need to know how to tattoo and be able to explain your methods, demonstrate carefully and give useful feedback. You must also hold any licence required where you work.
Read the current tattoo course outline before applying. Fine-line tattooing is included alongside blackwork, tribal and Māori-inspired design exercises, traditional tattooing, watercolour and colour realism. The main course also includes the separate online bloodborne-pathogen course.
Plan a workshop people can actually attend
An artist in Durban, Johannesburg or a smaller town may have a very different teaching setup. Tell us where you work and what a learner would need to arrange before travelling. A precise studio location and an honest description of your teaching space are more useful than a long list of cities you might cover.
Protect your normal studio diary
Identify a four-day block that leaves enough time for setup, breaks, cleaning and feedback. Explain whether you can reserve a separate teaching station or need to limit normal bookings during the workshop.
Make equipment and travel clear
List the equipment you already have and the practical items that still need discussion with Skinart. Tell us whether learners from outside your area would need accommodation or transport, without promising either as part of the course.
Teach in a language the learner understands
Include the languages you can comfortably teach in, especially when explaining hygiene, consent and practical corrections. A fluent conversation about a design is different from clearly explaining a safety process.
Check the local setup before offering places
Describe your premises and the permissions, registration or licensing that apply where you work, if required. Confirm the position with the relevant local authority and your insurer before hosting paid training.
Good tattooing needs clear teaching
A learner needs more than a view over your shoulder. Be ready to explain why you made a design, setup or technique decision, watch a practice attempt and identify a specific next improvement. Allow time for questions and keep practical tasks within the agreed workshop plan.
The four-day workshop complements the Skinart online tattoo course with practical guidance from an experienced artist. Agree dates, learner arrangements and commercial terms with Skinart before advertising places.
Introduce yourself and your studio
Use the existing Skinart South Africa contact page and begin your message with “Tattoo trainer application — your town or city”. Include:
- Your name, town or city, region and the studio where you would teach.
- Your tattooing background and links to your own portfolio, including healed work where available.
- Your studio role, teaching space, relevant equipment and practical availability for a four-day block.
- The languages you can teach in and any previous mentoring or teaching experience.
- Relevant licensing or registration where required, and anything about your premises or insurance that needs checking.
- The questions you want to discuss about workshop delivery and commercial arrangements.
Send a concise introduction and portfolio links first. Avoid sending identity documents or private client records in an initial enquiry. Contacting the team starts a discussion; it is not confirmation of appointment as a trainer.
Trainer questions
Can I apply from a smaller South African town?
Yes. Tell Skinart your actual studio location, teaching space, experience and availability. Do not assume that applying creates an approved training venue or that students have already been allocated to your area.
Who issues the student’s certificate?
The student follows the Skinart online course and its completion requirements to receive the Skinart course certificate. Adding a practical workshop does not create a separate local licence or remove course requirements.
What will I earn as a trainer?
Trainer rates, responsibilities and commercial terms are for discussion with Skinart. This page does not quote a fee, allocate learners or guarantee bookings.
Can I apply from another country?
Yes. Choose your country below, or contact Skinart if it is not listed. Use the location where you would actually deliver the workshop.
