Permanent Makeup Certification and Insurance in South Africa

PMU training and insurance answer different questions. Your course record shows what you studied and completed; an insurer needs to understand the services you intend to offer. Give both questions a clear scope before buying training or accepting bookings.
Describe the PMU services precisely
List the treatments you want to learn or provide, such as machine brows, lip work or eyeliner. State which are new to you and which you have experience in. Avoid using “beauty treatments” as the whole description when asking about training or cover.
Skinart’s published PMU curriculum includes consultation and face design, workstation preparation, equipment and pigments, brows, eyeliner and lips. It also includes professional-practice topics. Use that syllabus to compare the learning with your intended service list.
Keep useful evidence of completed learning
- The exact course name, provider and completion date.
- The syllabus identifying the techniques studied.
- The assignments and assessment information provided.
- Any further practical training and its accurate records.
- Questions about experience or training evidence that still need an answer.
The CPD Standards Office provider record lists Permanent Makeup Training for Skinart. Verify the named activity when checking recognition. It does not, by itself, tell you whether a particular insurer accepts your intended treatments.
Ask about the actual treatments and setting
Give the insurer or broker your service list, training evidence and intended working address. Explain whether you will work as an employee, independently in a rented room or in your own business. Ask it to identify the activities and circumstances covered in the proposed policy.
Ask what information it needs about your experience, equipment and pigments, and whether there are treatment-specific conditions or exclusions. Read its written response alongside the policy documents; a generic statement about salon insurance is not confirmation of PMU treatment cover.
A focused enquiry you can adapt
“I plan to offer [named PMU treatments] at [address] as [working arrangement]. My completed training is [course and date], with [relevant practical experience]. Please confirm which treatments and locations the proposed cover includes, the evidence you require and any relevant exclusions or conditions. I would also like the policy wording and schedule before deciding.”
Replace the brackets with accurate information. This is an enquiry template, not an application or confirmation that cover is available.
Separately confirm premises requirements with the relevant local authority. A training certificate, a landlord’s permission and an insurance policy are separate records; keep each tied to the actual services and address.
Check the course before choosing an option
Read the online PMU course for the current syllabus, purchase options and access terms. Choose the Full Course or staged option with its scope clear.
For training questions, contact Skinart South Africa with your experience and the treatments you want to learn. Questions about a policy’s cover should go to the insurer or broker.
