BBP Training for Tattoo and Piercing Teams: What to Review

Tattoo and piercing teams can use BBP training to build a shared understanding of exposure risks and prevention. Make the review relevant to each person’s tasks instead of treating a certificate as proof that every workplace question has been resolved.

Identify the roles and tasks involved

Start by listing the work each person actually does, including handling equipment or potentially contaminated items. Practitioners and support staff may have different duties and therefore different learning questions. Do not assume that everyone needs the same briefing simply because they share a workplace.

The review should identify what is already understood and what needs clarification. It should not become an informal substitute for an appropriate workplace risk assessment or a complete set of operating procedures.

Use the course topics to structure discussion

Skinart’s published BBP curriculum covers transmission and protection, personal protective equipment, sharps and medical waste, incident exposure procedures, record keeping and a knowledge quiz. Use the relevant topics as prompts for checking what staff understand.

Ask each person which local instructions apply to their own tasks and where they can find them. When a question concerns a practical procedure, refer it to the responsible person and the applicable instructions rather than guessing from a chapter title.

Keep evidence that can answer a real question

  • Record the external course and completion date accurately.
  • Keep any assessment evidence provided.
  • Identify workplace-specific instruction separately.
  • Note questions that still need an answer and who will resolve them.
  • Review the record when someone takes on different duties.

A small record that shows completed learning and unresolved questions is easier to use than a collection of certificates with no clear relationship to the tasks.

A simple team-review example

As a fictional planning example, a studio could ask staff to bring their course records and one question about a task they perform. The manager can then identify which questions concern the general learning and which need clarification of local procedures.

Record the answer and any further instruction needed. Do not change a person’s original completion date to make an old certificate appear current. New learning should have its own accurate record.

The CPD provider directory lists Skinart’s Bloodborne Pathogen Training. Verify that specific activity when checking accreditation; it does not establish that a team’s whole workplace has been approved or that every risk has been eliminated.

Review the current training information

Explore the online BBP course to check its current syllabus, learning format and purchase options. Compare the actual training with the evidence requested for your proposed work.

If you are unsure which course fits your existing skills, contact Skinart South Africa with your location, experience and intended services. We can explain the training; the relevant authority and insurer confirm their own requirements.
